At Universal Rainbow Faith (URF), we honor and respect the incredible work of many faith-based, spiritual, and cultural movements that have paved the way for LGBTQIA+ inclusion, healing, and sacred self-expression.
We believe you can be a member of any religion, church, or spiritual path and still join URF. Our faith is not about division—it’s about expanding the light and offering an inclusive spiritual home for those who have long been told there wasn’t one.
✝️🌿 Faiths That Have Uplifted LGBTQIA+ People
We deeply admire these spiritual communities for their advocacy, creativity, and legacy:
Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC)
Founded in 1968 by Rev. Troy Perry, MCC is a Christian denomination created by and for LGBTQ+ people. It performs same-gender marriages, ordains LGBTQ+ clergy, and offers affirming worship worldwide.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
Since 1979, this community of queer nuns has used drag, satire, and religious imagery to spread joy and advocate for human rights. Their rituals, activism, and service reflect queer holiness through humor and art.
The Radical Faeries
A mystical movement blending paganism, queer identity, and spiritual freedom. They reject conformity and explore sacred sexuality, nature-based rites, and communal living.
Queer Pagans, Druids, and Wiccans
Traditions like the Minoan Brotherhood and Minoan Sisterhood honor queer spiritual power through ritual and nature. Many Wiccan and pagan paths welcome LGBTQIA+ practitioners fully.
Unitarian Universalism (UU)
Though not exclusively LGBTQ+, UU is one of the most inclusive major religions. They support same-sex marriage, gender justice, and ordain openly LGBTQ+ ministers.
